Inauguration of Bola Ahmed Tinubu

Bola Ahmed Tinubu was inaugurated as the President of Nigeria on May 29, 2023. A former Governor of Lagos State and a key figure in the ruling APC, Tinubu emerged victorious in a three-way race against Atiku Abubakar of the PDP and Peter Obi of the Labour Party.

The election was one of the most competitive in Nigeria’s history, marked by the strong showing of a third-party candidate and the use of new electoral technologies like the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS).

In his inaugural address, President Tinubu announced the immediate removal of the long-standing fuel subsidy, a move that signaled a bold, if controversial, start to his economic reforms. His presidency faces significant challenges including high inflation, security concerns, and the need for national reconciliation following a divisive election.
